Ikiperu Vases
Ikiperu vases is a collection presented by Poltrona Frau at the Salone del Mobile 2023, born out of the creativity of designer Kristine Five Melvær and inspired by ancient Etruscan civilisation as a way of honouring Italian manufacturing culture.
Ikiperu Vases is defined by the ancient lines that are the basis for the creation of this ceramic range. Ikiperu is the Picenian name for the goddess Cupra, a goddess of the earth and fertility worshipped in central Italy; the design celebrates her culture by showing between one glazed portion and another the naked terracotta that recalls her element. The material and tactile contrasts between the shiny gloss and the roughness of the natural material are inspired by earth and air colours, drawing on the repertoire of leather colours used by Poltrona Frau for its timeless furnishings. The clay itself with which they are made comes from a quarry of Etruscan origin; each object is hand turned, tracing the archetypal forms found in archaeological finds. The collection consists of a vase, a bowl and a jar with lid, all made of Umbrian ceramics with a pronounced graphic look and playful expression.
A collection of polished glazed ceramics contrasting with unglazed ceramic surfaces, consisting of a Vase (Ø23 h36 cm), a Bowl (Ø23 h11 cm) and a Lidded Vase/Pissid (Ø15 h12 cm). Each item is available in two different colour ranges: Sky Blue and Earth Brown. White felt pads have been applied to the base of each item to protect the surfaces in contact with the objects. A camel-coloured leather strap facilitates the opening of the pyxis lid.
