Hexagon Side Table
Designer : YMerckx+Maes
Marc Merckx’s Hexagon tables prove that nature is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for new designs. The designer looked for and found his inspiration in the Giant’s Causeway. It’s a rock formation in Northern Ireland that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The table’s teak support refers to the hexagonal basalt pillars from this natural wonder.
Moreover, Merckx swears by sophisticated proportions, which is why the perfect symmetry of the honeycomb was his second source of inspiration. The Hexagon tabletop is made from glazed lava rock with a craquelure effect that highlights the natural imperfections in the stone. The enamel layer makes the natural rock water, heat, frost, UV, and stain-resistant. Hexagon is equally beautiful on its own or in a multiunit layout.
